A true artist is always creating, evolving, and re-inventing.

Todd Hobin is that kind of restless spirit.

Although known around the world as the leader of the iconic, explosive Todd Hobin Band, there is more… Much more.

Todd Hobin is an American singer/songwriter and composer. His latest film score for the award-winning documentary film The Artist and the Astronaut caps a remarkable career in films, audiobooks, and TV.

He is currently working on a Rock Opera with Bob Christianson and Bruce Coville, which will be recorded in London later this year.

He is an adjunct professor in the music department at Le Moyne College. As a Guest Lecturer and Guest Conductor, he enjoys all aspects of the music business and is eager to share his insights. The occasional conducting gig usually involves Pop or Rock, go figure.

Todd Hobin’s History of Rock Concert

It doesn’t look like a lecture. It feels more like a concert. It is Todd Hobin, the professor sharing stories and songs as he takes you step by step through the Rock Era.

The concert is the result of Hobin’s college course, “This History of Rock.” His students would enthusiastically tell their parents and friends about his lectures on the topic, peppered with his live demonstrations on the piano and guitar. They would ask if there was a way they could take the course too. Well, now they can. And it’s a history as told by one of Rock’s early practitioners. A man who witnessed Rock-n-Roll’s very inception.

According to Professor Hobin, “The Rock Era is too broad and too diverse to cover in a semester, let alone in a two-hour concert.” But with a “little help from his friends,” he’s created an exciting waltz through one of the most dynamic periods in music history.

The concert features Letizia, Brett Hobin, and Steve Orlando, Jr. Together they demonstrate early pop music with snippets of classic songs. Hobin reveals the origin of the Blues and how it infiltrated Country Western, Folk, Pop, The American Songbook, and Gospel music. The band also shares how all these influences have affected their recordings.

The lecture is punctuated with his personal experiences having worked with some of the early practitioners of rock’n’roll such as Little Richard, James Cotton (Muddy Waters), The Kinks, The Beach Boys, and many more. He is still performing today while continuing as a professor and a fan of Rock. He has played in concert halls, stadiums, barrooms, roadhouses, fields, cities, and small towns. Hobin says of his life-long adventure, “I am a road warrior who is still playing, still writing songs, still recording, still practicing, and still dreaming.”

Behind the scenes, Hobin is producing the new album by Cheri Giraud entitled "All My Tomorrows," a beautiful collection of American Songbook Standards.  He is also the engineer/producer for the Record Store Radio podcast.

A Little History

Many of Todd’s fans remember some of his early performances. Those early bands included The Continentals, Nomen Non, and a host of singer-songwriter gigs, followed by The Pryde, Sage, and Christian Gray featuring Dave Maswick, Gary Hodges, and Chuck Lorre (yes, THAT Chuck Lorre.) A stint with The Stompin’ Suede Greasers. found him playing alongside Del Shannon, Chubby Checker, the Angels, and a long list of early rock’n’roll stars.

But then came those magical years with the

Todd Hobin Band

Todd and the band delivered energetic legendary performances, making them one of rock’s hardest-working, well-traveled bands. The music was, and still is distinctly American, melodic, driving, and powerful. They played thousands of shows and shared the stage with some of the greatest bands of the Rock Era from The Beach Boys and Kinks, to the Allman Brothers, Hall & Oates, and many, many more.

The band’s compilation double CD set, The Early Years is filled with Hobin classics: I Hate You, Keepin’ the Dream Alive, New York Country Song, and more. Their last album, It’s Not Over continued in the same tradition; critically acclaimed, rocking, thoughtful, and uncompromising. They remain a closely held treasure to those who know their music.

The European Magazine Rock Hard summed it up this way:

“The Todd Hobin Band sounds like a mixture of Chicago, the Eagles, and Crosby, Stills & Nash, played in a heavy rock style.”
