JOURNAL 201227 - Christmas 2020 is in the books. I don’t know about you, but next year can’t come soon enough. This Christmas was a strange one, Mr. Grinch!

OK, stop complaining. Let’s be thankful for the good stuff. Like, how much we are learning to appreciate a nice hug from a grandchild or a face to face conversation with your kids. Or how about a raucous, totally out of control get together with your extended family. I miss my family. I miss my friends. I miss my Christmas concerts. I miss playing with my students. And I miss my band. How wonderful will it be to all be together again? Now I truly know.

Oh, yes. And I am very thankful for Zoom.

After a couple of semesters of teaching remotely I have become a zoom expert. An expertise that I liberally utilized on my grandchildren, children, and friends. It’s actually getting to be kinda fun.

NEXT UP, New Year’s Eve followed by a new president and administration. Regardless of your political proclivities, you have to admit that shaking things up every few years is interesting. It keeps you on your toes. All politicians know inherently that the office they occupy will soon be filled by someone else. And that new person will go nosing around in your business to find all your dirty little secrets. It is very hard to hide from history.

History has a savagely simple way of codifying the past. Your successor will grade you. Do good in office and you will be revered. It’s really quite simple. You will also get ONE, maybe TWO main accomplishments next to your name in the record books. Choose your battles wisely. The rest is just, “Do your job. And do it well.”  And remember who will grade you. It ain’t gonna be your mama.

Geez, did I get off-topic or what?

It’s Monday. The short week between the holidays. It was a long, hard slog through emergencies this morning.  A morning that started at 7:00 AM and just ended… at 3:00 PM. Only now, have I been able to take a breath and look ahead a little. But, before I jump into today’s main projects(Illustrating and teaching), I wanted to let off a little inner steam.

I owe so many people correspondence, thanks, and well wishes. I will most likely never catch up. I will most likely not be able to pursue the next Todd Hobin song or the next fine art piece. Too much work in the pipeline. And if that’s my biggest beef, I think I can deal with it.

My afternoon and evening sessions await.
