Tragic News this morning. We knew it was going to be bad last night, but as the news started coming in this morning, our worst fears were realized. Two of our men in blue were shot and killed last night in Salina, NY.

CNY is a small Upstate New York community. We all will know somebody who knows these men as neighbors or family members. For our family, the loss of these men feels all too familiar. Many of the first responders who surrounded the emergency room entryway and then stood at attention as their fallen comrades’ bodies were taken to the morgue, were the same officers who accompanied our Sean to his gravesite.

We know this loss all too well.

In the coming hours and days, we will learn their names. We will prepare ourselves for the funerals to come. Let us pray for their families.

We will also learn about the “suspect.” His name. His motives. And why he was storing and carrying with him an arsenal.

The topic of guns will come up again. It should. It’s complicated, but it shouldn’t be. Nobody wants the bad guys or the insane guys to possess a gun. Start there.
